MAC Dev (40 Class B Credits)

MAC Dev (40 Class B credits) is the same requirement as before, just under a new name!

MAC Dev supports CRNAs' development through professional activities, allowing them to earn their required Class B Credits while gaining valuable skills and experiences that enhance their ability to provide safe and effective anesthesia care to patients.

MAC Dev Overview

How It Works

Through MAC Dev, CRNAs are required to obtain 40 Class B credits per four-year cycle. These credits do not require prior approval or an assessment.

MAC Dev requires professional development activities to achieve one or more of the following objectives to count toward Class B credits:

  • Enhanced knowledge of anesthesia practice
  • Supports patient safety
  • Fostering an understanding of the broader healthcare environment

  • Examples of activities that qualify for Class B credits include:
  • Teaching
  • Publishing
  • Research
  • Morbidity and mortality conferences
  • Research and data collection
  • Mission trips
  •

For additional ideas, credit values and details about what professional activity information needs to be collected and reported to NBCRNA, see the  Class B Credits Table (PDF). Please note: you will only be required to submit this information if you are audited, but documenting it as you go avoids having to do so later if an audit is required.

If you do not see an activity you believe may qualify as a Class B activity, contact  support@nbcrna.com to discuss whether that activity could be applied to the Class B requirement. The  Class B Credits Table (PDF) includes optional templates you can use for each activity that specify what documentation is needed for each.

Additionally, any surplus MAC Ed (Class A) credits earned beyond the required 60 contribute towards your MAC Dev (Class B) credit total.
